Clare Lewarne, Emerging Conservator Award Recipient 2009

Clare Lewarne is a Toronto native and a graduate of the University of Toronto with a BA in Art History and Classical Civilizations. Clare has long had a passion for museums and as an undergraduate student, she volunteered at museums and galleries both in Canada and Sweden. After reading a newspaper article about the profession, Clare realized that textile conservation would perfectly combine her love of history, museums, textiles and handwork.  Clare is currently completing an MSc in Human Ecology with specialization in Textile Conservation at the University of Alberta. She interned in the textile conservation laboratory at the Royal Ontario Museum during the summer of 2007, and has undertaken research on the identification and characterization of rayon in dresses from the 1920s and 1930s.
