Sophia Zweifel, Emerging Conservator Award Recipient 2017

Sophia Zweifel (MAC 2015) holds a BA and MA in Art History from the University of British Columbia and University College London (UCL). Sophia completed the Master of Art Conservation program at Queen’s University, specializing in the conservation of objects. Sophia carried out pre-program and curriculum internships at the Vancouver Art Gallery, the UCL Special Collections Library, the Canadian Museum of History, and the Canadian Conservation Institute. Since graduating, Sophia has worked conservation contracts at the McCord museum in Montreal, at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, and with Conservation of Sculpture, Monuments and Objects (CSMO). In 2016, she completed a one-year post-graduate internship in Textile Conservation at the Canadian Conservation Institute.  This past winter, Sophia returned to Kingston as the Isabel Bader Fellow in Textile Conservation and Research at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre at Queen’s University. Sophia is now working with Conservation Solutions Inc. based in Ottawa. She is currently involved in two projects in Calgary, an assessment of the city’s public art collection as well as the treatment of one of the Centre Street Bridge Lions. As a native Calgarian Sophia is thrilled to be a part of this work, and is looking forward to her next conservation adventure.
