Maia Balint, Emerging Conservator Award Recipient 2018

Maia Balint has an Honours Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Toronto and recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management at Fleming College. She was drawn into the world of conservation through her interest in bookbinding: she has taken a range of bookbinding courses in Canada and in the United Kingdom. Before studying at Fleming College, Maia interned at the Design Museum (London, UK) where she processed a newly acquired collection and at the Robertson Davies Library (Massey College, Toronto) where she assisted with book conservation and learned to print using historic printing presses and type. She did her Fleming placement at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (Exeter, UK) where she helped to prepare artefacts and make mounts for the 2018 reopening of their World Cultures gallery. Maia is currently based in Oxford, UK and is working as a Collections Management Consultant for Exeter College (University of Oxford).
